IOE Students Shine at National AutoMathic 2026 Quiz Bee

Institute of Engineering (IOE) made its mark as two of its math teams competed in AutoMathic 2026. Held on February 7, 2026, at the Dante B. De Padua Hall within the University of the Philippines- Los Baños (UPLB) CEAT Complex, the event gathered the most capable engineering students from across the country to face off in a test of analytical speed and mathematical precision.

Hosted by the University of the Philippines Civil Engineering Society (UPCES), AutoMathic is a national intercollegiate competition known for its difficulty level. KLD was represented by two teams previously selected during the local "AutoMathic Eliminations" held last year. Accompanied by coaches Engr. Jucar B. Fernandez and Engr. Ryan Shane Langit, the students joined a field of 66 competing teams, showcasing the growing competitive spirit of the KLD engineering program.

IOE’s Team B, composed of third-year BS Civil Engineering students Timberly Jazz Ferrer, Kenjie Aclo, and Nellvin Cervantes, delivered a standout performance. After the  preliminary phase, the trio fought through a wildcard round where they secured an impressive Top 3 finish, propelling them into the finals. Ultimately, Team B concluded the competition as one of the Top 30 finalists in the nation, a feat that speaks to their preparation.

Meanwhile, Team A, featuring second-year BSCE students Christian D. Agawin, Jericho M. Faustino, and Trinity D. Camba, utilized the platform as a training ground. While facing off against older and more experienced competitors, the sophomores demonstrated strong potential and resilience. The IOE faculty views this participation as a foundation for the "AutoMathic 2027" edition, ensuring that the lessons learned that day would lead to even greater results in the next academic year.

This successful outing was bolstered by a dedicated coaching staff. Beyond the onsite leads, the teams received training from Engr. Jesus Ray Mansayon, Engr. Earl Jayson Alvaran, and Engr. Jhon Cristian Colesio. Their guidance helped the students navigate advanced mathematical concepts and the pressure of a live, face-to-face national arena. The IOE continues to celebrate these students for bringing honor to the institution and proving that KLD engineers can hold their own against the brightest minds in the Philippines.
