Strengthening Laboratory Safety: ISM-DPS Faculty Attends NCBB Biorisk Management Training
Ms. Candy Camille Haspela of ISM-DPS joined NCBB’s 2-day training on biorisk & chemical safety, gaining skills in hazard ID, risk mitigation, lab protocols, & emergency preparedness

The National Center for Biosafety and Biosecurity (NCBB) hosted the Introduction to Biorisk Management and Chemical Security and Safety Training last February 11–12, 2026, at the National Institutes of Health in UP Manila. Ms. Candy Camille Haspela, a faculty member of the Department of Physical Sciences and laboratory technician, participated in the said event.
The two-day seminar was highly intensive and concentrated on enhancing skills related to chemical and biological safety and security. Ms. Haspela participated in an array of laboratory protocols and standards that include the following:
 
🔬 Identification of chemical and biological hazards
🛡️ Chemical and biological security frameworks and compliance standards
⚖️ Risk assessment, evaluation, and mitigation strategies
🧪 Proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials
🚨 Emergency preparedness and response to chemical spills and laboratory incidents
📋 Development of laboratory safety protocols and incident reporting systems
🔍 Promoting a culture of responsibility and accountability in laboratory settings
