Dasmariñas City, Cavite | June 26, 2026
The Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Dasmariñas (KLD), through its Institute of Behavioral Sciences (IBS), successfully held the 3rd Candle Lighting and Pinning Ceremonies for Psychology Students on June 26, 2026. Guided by the theme “From Scholarship to Service: Advancing Psychological Excellence for Sustainable and Inclusive Development,” the event marked an important milestone in the academic journey of Psychology students.
The ceremony celebrated the students’ growth as future psychology professionals and served as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with the discipline. Through the symbolic candle lighting and pinning rites, students reaffirmed their commitment to ethical practice, professional excellence, and service to others.
The event was attended by Vice Mayor Third Barzaga, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Members of Dasmariñas, KLD President Dr. Juanito O. Cabanias, members of the KLD Administration, IBS Psychology Faculty Members, and more than 600 Psychology students.
The highlight of the program was the keynote address delivered by Dr. Sheila Marie Guevarra-Hocson, Professor at Far Eastern University. In her message, she emphasized the importance of using psychological knowledge not only for academic achievement but also for meaningful service to communities. She encouraged students to uphold integrity, compassion, and professional competence as they prepare to make a positive impact in society.
More than a ceremonial tradition, the Candle Lighting and Pinning Ceremony reflected KLD's commitment to nurturing future psychology professionals who are equipped with both knowledge and a strong sense of social responsibility. As they continue their academic and professional journey, students are challenged to translate what they learn in the classroom into actions that promote mental health, human development, and community well-being.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among the students, reminding them that true excellence in psychology is measured not only by scholarship but also by service to others.
