KLD Honors the Modern Babaylan: National Women's Month Celebration

The Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Dasmariñas transformed its halls into a place of advocacy and creativity this March, marking its participation in the 2026 National Women’s Month. Aligning with the national campaign, “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” the institution focused on the subtheme “Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas!” to bridge the gap between historical heritage and modern-day leadership.

The celebration kicked off with a week-long showcase from March 16 to 24, titled “A Celebration of Art, Resilience, and Leadership Towards Triumph and Transformation.” First-year students from the BS Life Sciences, BS Psychology, and BS Social Work programs currently enrolled in Art Appreciation and Readings in Philippine History brought the theme to life. KLD featured an array of paintings, digital brochures, and interactive booths, alongside video presentations that spotlighted the contributions of Filipinas across different eras. By highlighting both historical figures and contemporary icons, the students emphasized that the spirit of the Babaylan remains a driving force in today's society.

Beyond the student-led exhibits, KLD turned its attention toward institutional accountability. On March 25 and 26, the college held its first two-day Gender Sensitivity Training for all employees. Under the banner “Safe Spaces, Shared Spaces: Understanding Your Rights,” the seminar provided a deep dive into the legal frameworks that protect the workforce and the student body.

KLD invited PCMS Maria Victoria Divina Mirilyan, Chief of the City of Dasmariñas Women and Children Protection Desk, to lead the discussion. She provided a comprehensive breakdown of Republic Act 7877 (Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995) and Republic Act 11313 (Safe Spaces Act). Her session focused on the practical application of these laws, ensuring that every staff member understands their role in maintaining a professional environment where dignity is a priority. Following this, Ms. Cecilia Raquel C. Alvaran, Chairperson of the KLD Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI), detailed the institution’s specific procedures and guidelines. Her presentation reaffirmed KLD’s zero-tolerance policy for harassment and its dedication to providing a secure space for all.

The successful execution of these events was the result of a collaborative effort led by the Gender and Development Unit. The initiatives were backed by the City of Dasmariñas GAD Focal Point System and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), reflecting a city-wide commitment to gender-responsive governance.
