Two faculty members from the Department of Life Sciences joined the 3-day molecular diagnostics training on pathogen detection held on January 14–16, 2026 at the Institute of Biology, UP Diliman. The workshop, organized by The Philippine Society of Parasitology and Public Health Biology Laboratory.
Mr. Earl Cyril G. Rosaldo, participated in the molecular identification of larval helminths in intermediate hosts which focuses on DNA-based methods for identifying parasitic worm, 𝘈𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘺𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴, in non-human hosts. While Mr. Christopher A. Malay trained for dried clinical samples for sexually transmitted infection (STI) epidemiology that focuses on 𝘊𝘩𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘺𝘥𝘪𝘢 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘴. Both trainings provided firsthand activities from sample preparation, DNA extraction and purification, qPCR detection, and prevalence reporting
The training provided the participants with up-to-date skills mentoring and opportunity for collaboration with PHBL. Kinovett Scientific Solutions Co. and the Department of Science and Technology sponsored the event – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development DOST PCAARRD
